Morning Coffee

quote

Good morning!  It’s almost afternoon, but let’s go with it.  The above card came with my deodorant shipment and I’ve hung it on my refrigerator as a daily reminder. Hope everyone had a good weekend!  I did, it was a bit more mellow than originally anticipated, but we had gloomy weather so it was nice. I got stuff done at home, exercised, didn’t drink too much, spent time with friends and family, binged Big Little Lies! WOW.  So I read the book and therefore didn’t have much excitement for the series. I have to say, the series was SO good.  I loved how it was filmed, how they got into each character, the music, all of it.  Now, I am really excited for Season 2!

I thought on Tuesdays I would share a recipe or something tasty I threw together.  I’m notorious (within my own mind) for looking up recipes and then combining a few of them to make my ultimate masterpiece.  Ha.  However, last night, I was so hungry that I forgot to take pics of what I made…whoops.  Rookie blogger fail.

Since coffee is one of my favorite things in life, I thought why not share my morning routine with you all!

I’m a big fan of buying whole bean coffee and then grinding it myself.  It can have its downfalls, for example if I use it all up and forget to grind more, it can make for an annoying wake up, but that doesn’t happen often.  Lately, I’ve been into the whole bean options from Trader Joe’s.  I bought this one because it intrigued me, and to be honest at first it almost tasted bourbon-like.  It’s grown on me, though and now I’m into it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been a cream in my coffee kinda gal.  I used to buy Coffeemate by the gallon, and have never turned away a splash of half & half.  As I educated myself about food in general and learned healthier ways of making my morning beverage, I moved on to adding collagen powder & blending butter & coconut oil into my coffee.  It tastes like heaven!

A couple months ago I went dairy free for some gut health reasons, and the weirdest thing happened.  The dairy I missed the most?  Half & half in my freaken coffee.  Oddly I never bought half & half at home, I used it only when out, but it was apparently enough of a treat that I REALLY missed it.  This past weekend, I found ripple – and all is once again right in the world.  This stuff is so good!  If you’re dairy free and the almond/soy/coconut options aren’t working for you, try it!

I get asked a lot about collagen.  I’m hugely for it.  So many benefits for skin, joints, hair, nails, gut.  Some people say you can taste it, I really have no idea, because I put other stuff in my coffee as well.  I like Vital Proteins, which yay you can get on Amazon, and I also like Great Lakes.  I have some friends who swear by Bulletproof, but I haven’t tried it yet.  See what works for you!

Lastly, coconut oil.  I find coconut oil to be delicious.  I cook with it constantly, sometimes lick it off the spoon, obviously put it in my coffee and it has a zillion other uses.  All you have to go is google uses for coconut oil, and a ton of articles come up.  Check it out!

As for measurements, I put in 2 scoops of collagen, a pour of half & half, a big teaspoon of coconut oil, and I shake that up!  It’s my favorite way to start the day, and I honestly look forward to it.  Is that sad?

I hope everyone has a great week, I feel like it’s going to fly by, but I think that is just the norm these days.  What did Ferris Bueller say?  “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Don’t miss out people, there’s too much to see & do!

Cheers!

  1. Nikki, do you blend all the items in a blender? What benefits have you found from this bulletproof coffee? Are you doing other Keto recipes? Thanks! Amy

    1. I actually use a to-go tumbler and just shake it up. I find it gives me enough calories in the morning to get through a workout and then I’ll eat breakfast afterwards. I wouldn’t say I’m doing “keto” so to speak, but I did change my diet quite a bit to work on some gut health. I will likely do a post on that at some point!
