So yesterday was Wine Wednesday. Ironically I drank wine, but I didn’t blog. My computer had a major issue and I was on the phone with our IT people for 2 hours, it was a mess. By the time I hung up and finished my work, I was ready for a glass of wine!
This was 100% me last night.
Do you remember when you started drinking wine? I do. I thought 2 Buck Chuck was the jam and thankfully it was only $2 because yours truly was broke and couldn’t afford much more. When Martina McBride sang “This One’s for the Girls” and talked about “livin’ on dreams and Spaghetti O’s”, she was basically describing me in my mid-20’s.
Then I hit 30 and my palette matured just enough to where I was all about anything and everything Pinot. A funny story. One night in 2007, I was at home making dinner and didn’t have any wine (WHO WAS I???). I went into my roommate Kelley’s room (because of course that’s where you keep your wine??) and she had 3 bottles. Score! She had 2 Merlot’s and 1 Pinot. Well guess which one I helped myself to? The Pinot. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. Literally heaven on earth. I was enjoying the shit out of that wine, when she called, and I told her I was making dinner so she could join me if she was on her way home. She was! I also told her I’d opened a bottle of her wine, but I’d go to Safeway in the morning to replace it. She said oh no prob, but which one out of curiosity? I said the Pinot. She gets home, and I am raving about this damn Pinot. Well I come to find out that it’s THIS Pinot, hence it’s deliciousness and I sure wasn’t going to find it at Safeway. We still laugh about it to this day. (Side note: It wasn’t that exact Pinot, as it was 2007, but the price was the same).
Now, it’s safe to say I’m a wine snob. I had to draw the line. If I am going to drink a glass of wine, I want to enjoy it and not have an immediate headache. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. That said, here are some links to a few of my favorites that won’t break the bank (or won’t break it too bad)!
Red Blend – Reverence – scroll to the bottom, it’s second from last
Bubbles – this is from my first Wine Wednesday post, but it’s worth linking again.
Sauv B – I’m not a big Sauv B fan, but my friends like this one
Lastly, if you really want to treat yourself, I always find it more fun to head to the wineries and taste. Then you can buy a bottle here, a bottle there, and usually find some gems you wouldn’t have otherwise.
